NSW Health Coaching Panel (pilot phase)

Aim

Establish a coaching panel to provide high quality, easy to procure coaches for the health services to:

  • build capability for improvement, implementation and leadership; 
  • develop the capability of LHD local managers to sustain change and innovation.

Benefits

High quality coaches will be pre-assessed and appointed to the coaching panel.

LHD / SHN Senior Project Leads and Managers will increase capability for change management and sustainability, growing capacity in local health services.

Summary

ACI / HETI and Ministry of Health (System Relationships) have collaborated to procure a high quality coaching service to support individuals and teams to implement change and sustain innovation.

In the pilot phase (2014) coaching will be offered to nominated staff undertaking projects through the Centre for Healthcare Redesign Diploma Program, Whole of Hospital program and the Implementation of Minimum Standards for Hip Fracture program in partnership with ACI.

Background

Change implementation is resource intensive and challenging work, particularly as success usually relies on people changing their behaviour and adopting new work practices in complex and busy environments.

Skills required by sponsors and change agents include; interpersonal skills such as influence, conflict management, team building, managing resistance as well as technical skills such as time management, planning and monitoring.

Coaching has been identified as a professional development approach which can support staff to realise significant achievements through targeted development, either as individuals or in teams.

Pilot Sites

In the pilot phase (2014) coaching will be offered to nominated staff in Local Health Districts and Specialty Health Networks undertaking projects through the Centre for Healthcare Redesign Diploma Program, Whole of Hospital program and the Implementation of Minimum Standards for Hip Fracture program in partnership with ACI.
